well, thank god it doesn’t play for me.
I don’t know what it is about this song, but I absolutely loathe it. Every time I hear it, regardless of the version, I want to break something. I have no idea why it elicits this reaction from me.

      Me too

    • V.Lind says:

Or, as Leonard might sing, “But you don’t really care for music, do ya?” 🙂

      • Mikey says:

but “Leonard” would be wrong, wouldn’t he, since I’m a professional musician who is passionate about his art. He might not like that I loathe his song, but then, I wouldn’t expect him to like my 4th symphony either (which I doubt he would).

Since I’m not really a fan of Mr. Cohen’s, I can’t really tell if your comment is snark, or a jab, or agreeable humour, or some sort of implied judgment.

        • Sue says:

People have all sorts of ‘interesting’ tastes in everything; there’s no doubt that Cohen had his devotees and they’re allowed to like his music. Conversely, some of us are allowed not to like it. I’m of an older generation and popular music mostly bores me; the trite lyrics and cloying nature of many of them are no match for the witty, sophisticated and often plangent lyrics of the great song-writers like Cole Porter. Once you’ve climbed the mountain it’s very difficult to settle for a grassy knoll. That’s my take on it, anyway.

  • Arabella says:

Jacob Collier playing and singing this song on ‘In Tune’ as a tribute was beautiful.

  • Sue says:

@Yaypee; you’ve obviously no idea who Cole Porter is. A peerless song writer. You could spend a great deal of time just analysing one of his songs in terms of melody, harmony and lyrics. In fact, you can!!
