The Wrocław Philharmonic have named Giancarlo Guerrero as their music director.  He succeeds the US-Israeli Benjamin Shwartz, who has held the job for the past four years.

Guerrero, who is music director of the Nashville Symphony, will conduct four week in Wroclaw this year and eight weeks next. His opening concert takes place tonight.

  • David J. Hyslop says:

Giancarlo is a fine talent and will do well.

Had the pleasure of working with him when was the assistant conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra and he has done well in Nashville.

  • Matthew says:

Giancarlo is an excellent and engaging conductor. He has done wonderful things for Nashville.

I also know they loved him in the Cleveland Orchestra where he was their Miami conductor before they ended that residency. Glad to see him finding more international work.

  • Jonathan Sutherland says:

Maestro Guerrero’s conducting of the fiendishly difficult Bruckner Ninth Symphony with the NFM orchestra in their fabulous new hall last night was an absolute triumph and augurs well for an exciting partnership in the future. Yet another reason to visit wonderful Wrocław!

    • Andrey Boreyko says:

Totally agree! Wroclaw is amazing city, and looks now especially beautiful after being Cultural Capitol of Europe in 2016. The Hall is amazing, the orchestra has huge potential. The only one thing I would wish for this new collaboration -more than 8 weeks a year! Congratulations for Maestro, and for the orchestra.
