Half the singers at the Berlin Phil this Saturday will be refugees

The orchestra is putting on the premiere of Andrew Norman’s children’s opera, A Trip to the Moon.

It involves vocal soloists, some young instrumentalists and a mixed adults and children’s choir. There will also be a Youth Choir. Half of this choir is made up of refugees who arrived in Germany, mostly from the Middle East.

Welcome to Berlin.

    Will it have the same criteria when it is performed at the Barbican with Rattle and the LSO in July?

    50% of the population of Germany are immigrants from WW2 and DDR! It was like an kicked ant’s nest in 1945, may Dad told me. Most German families have immigrant relations as a consequence of the two wars.
