The German-based Capella Trinitatis has posted a notice of the death today of their harpsichordist and conductor, Ludger Rémy. He was 68.

A student of Kenneth Gilbert, Rémy has been professor of early music at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden since 1998.

He recorded several concertos by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.

  • Bruno Walter says:

A pity he recorded a lot of Froberger as well. For this the instrument must have been mean tone tuned not equal.

These days it’s pretty uncommon for a harpsichordist to record anything from before the second half of the 18th century (if not later) in equal temperament.

  • MWnyc says:

Oh, no! This is very sad.

He directed some wonderful recordings of cantatas by contemporaries of JS Bach, including Telemann, Erlebach and especially Stölzel.

I am pizza driver and music empathist.
Have seen him often in the last few months.
He had to cope with his situation but allways had a smile for me when I brought him burger and a cold Freiberger beer in the late evening to the fourth floor. “I am allways pleased to hear your voice” he said when I came up the stairways.
Liked the view to the ‘Dresdner Heide’ he had from his window. Hope he also likes it to look at those mighty trees from above there.

This is actually one of the most true and realistic things I have heard people say since Ludgers passing! Thank you for that, Stefan B!!! Thank you for making me feel lile I could just see you and him exchange a few words and thoughts, and for actually painting a much more accurate picture of him than lots of the official obituaries do, that simply cite his CV or discographie. I really am thankful for having stumbled upon your comment! It means a lot to me. So thank you for putting it up here!!

You sound like an angel. I am sure your voice was a great healing help to him!
