Fred Spector was hired by Fritz Reiner in 1956 and played on in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra until 2003.

Chicago born, Fred studied as a boy with his uncle J.B. Mazur, former concertmaster of the Czar’s Imperial Orchestra in Saint Petersburg

He died on Saturday at the age of 92.

    If I’m not mistaken, he was trained as a lawyer as well, which he put to work in the orchestra’s labor negotiations.
