Ulf Schirmer, 58, has been renewed for five more years as intendant and Generalmusikdirektor of Leipzig Opera.

He has been there since 2009.

    One of the few shining lights left in the world of conductors. But he has to be older than 58, no?

    He is another truly remarkable conductor who has been far underexposed in the media and his contribution to the classical music industry definitely deserves greater public visibility.

    He has also been doing an excellent job in München, but without making much noise like some of his younger colleagues.
