He’s out of Tosca this week.

That’s both of them out of the show. But the subs are pretty strong.

  • Ungeheuer says:

Oh well. Cavaradossi is nothing. What JK needs to be contemplating hard about is Otello. There is still time.

  • Sue says:

    Is he EVER well?

    • Olassus says:

Bought your ticket for the Sydney Parsifal?

    • PIPPA says:

Must confess that I am beginning to think the same…perhaps he is just not strong physically? Love his voice so do hope that he recovers quickly!

    • Ralph Fisher says:

Yes, I feel the same way. Why doesn’t he just he take a year off and do something about his health. If he’s that sickly maybe he should find a job that is less physically demanding; a manager/administrator with honest artist empathies would be nice anywhere in this messed up world or classical music.

    • Robin Worth says:

I was in Vienna over the weekend

You could not be anywhere without hearing people cough : there is some bug going around the town

Bad luck for the Kaufmann groupies, but it’s a bit unfair to criticize the man

  • Jackyt says:

But we just watched him in the livestream from Vienna. He was in fine voice, and even gave us an encore.

This is sadly reminiscent of Villazon, whom I saw give a fine performance as Werther at the ROH. He and Tony Papano gave each other a big hug at curtain call. I was so relieved he’d recovered from his voice problems … except he hadn’t, and cancelled La Boheme and, most recently, L’Elisir d’Amore (both at ROH).

I do hope and pray this won’t be the downward trajectory Kaufmann’s career follows.

    “the subs are pretty strong”
De gustibus non est disputandum. Antonenko can shout very loudly and reliably, but that’s about it.

  • Janet says:

Please be well for Hamburg or another wasted flight. I flew to New York and had no idea he had cancelled. Good job ROH and Barbican refunded ticket money or it becomes very expensive and disappointing.
Hoping he makes Otello- worth booking for Don Carlos in Paris or just watch the DVD?
