Happy days (2): Alison Balsom cancels, pregnant

An elegant cancellation at the Wigmore Hall:

We are delighted to hear the news that Alison Balsom is pregnant and fully understands that she is unable to proceed with some of her concerts during this time.

Alison married the film director Sam Mendes in January.

  • Has there been any study on the effect of brass playing on pregnancy? I wonder if players have to go easy while pregnant.

  • This is rather old news. I had tickets for this concert and was notified of the cancellation, and the reason for it, weeks ago!

  • It is not morning sickness or the strain of touring. She does not mind touring Germany and USA.

4 May. Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK. (Haydn).
6 May. Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK. (Guy Barker, The Lanterne of Light). Review to follow.
18 May. Cancelled: Wigmore Hall, London. With Lucy Crowe.
28 May. Kölner Philharmonie, Cologne, Germany. (Guy Barker, The Lanterne of Light).
29 May. Kölner Philharmonie, Cologne, Germany. (Guy Barker, The Lanterne of Light).
30 May. Kölner Philharmonie, Cologne, Germany. (Guy Barker, The Lanterne of Light).
9 June. Cancelled: Wigmore Hall, London. Late night with Guy Barker.
17 June. Cambridge Corn Exchange. (Haydn).
    30 June. Deal Festival. (Haydn).
3 August. Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, USA. (Hummel).

    • Germany and the USA? There are many UK dates here. Perhaps she has a procedure or such on the one canceled date. Pregnancy is a big deal, medically for anyone, trumpet or not.
