Franz Welser-Möst today named Vinay Parameswaran, 29, as his assistant conductor, as well as music director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra.

A Curtis grad from San Francisco, Vinay is presently associate conductor with the Nashville Symphony. He starts work in August, succeeding Brett Mitchell, who is moving up to be music director of the Colorado Symphony.

  • Larry Tucker says:

Vinay is an amazing conductor, but more an amazing young man. His intelligence, musicality and humanity are apparent to anyone who comes in contact with him.
While we are extremely sad to lose him, we all know he will be a HUGE success in Cleveland and make us proud to have worked with him early in what will be an amazing career. We wish him well. I will personally miss working with him.

  • French Hormone says:

Vin et Parmesan. Is he a gourmet too?
