A prolific pianist, Gordon Langford composed and arranged extensively for brass bands – as well as for many films, including Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman II, First Great Train Robbery, Clash of the Titans and Return to Oz.

He also wrote the test-card music for BBC Television.

His works were handsomely recorded by Chandos.

Gordon died this week at his home in Devon.

  • Mark Powell says:

And let’s not forget some truly lovely arrangements for the King’s Singers in the 80s and 90s.

  • Ian McMillan says:

This is a tremendous loss to the world of music for Stage & Screen. Gordon was the most ultimate professional of musicians, a brilliant trombonist, (trained RAM) pianist, arranger consumate, & one of the most modest & unassuming pro musicians you rarely meet. He was hugely respected throughout the world of music, particularly when he played piano for BBC Radio 2, with The BBC Concert Orchestra & The Max Jaffa Orchestra from Scarborough Spa Hall, where he would often arrive with his music & sandwiches in a plastic supermarket bag!…..
He often ‘ghosted’ arrangements when Angela Morley was busy, & was very modest about his contributions to many of the John Williams blockbusters on the big screen.
His love of driving the Seaton steam trains near his home in Devon only matched his love of arranging….. He & his admirable musical skills will be greatly missed, but his arrangements fortunately will live on! RIP Gordon – I’m sure the heavenly choir will reap the rewards of your skills!

  • Linda Green says:

RIP Uncle Gordon, now with Auntie Elaine

      Hello Linda,
You may have read my tribute to Gordon above?
Can you please send me details of when & where his Funeral is to be held please via this site? Like many pro musicians, I would like to journey down to Seaton for it if possible….. Many thanks, Ian McMillan, Conductor, London Pops Orchestra
