Certainly the perfect instrument to perform a work titled “The Robots are Coming”. Much else, no.
Apparently an educational project to inform youth about what a symphony orchestra is not, and what classical music is not.
The unimpressive visuals of automated percussion are probably why they added light flashes to let you know something was happening.
I don’t think will ever compete with the theatricality of a human drummer swinging away at some hide.
Mechanical percussion has been around on band organs for about 200 years now, if it hasn’t caught on yet…
