J&A Beare have bought the venerable London trademark of W E Hill (est. 1887).

  • Andrew Condon says:

Not quite sure what Beare’s have actually bought – I always thought the Hill firm ceased trading years ago

    • Michael Smith says:

They’ve bought the trademark, as Norman indicates. Ownership of a trademark can continue long after an entity stops trading (in the case of Hill’s, 1992).

  • Peter says:

Previously owned by Ealing Strings, is that correct ?

But what does buying W E Hill and Sons actually mean, since there is no continuity of people, skills, knowledge, business, customers or even stock or equipment or premises ? Or is there ?

It feels more like an exhumation than a merger.
