The star violinist and senior conductor gave a concert in Leipzig this weekend.

Afterwards it became known that both had donated their fees to an educational charity for refugees in Germany.

The joint donation is estimated at 60,000 Euros.

It’s a ridiculous amount money these star musicians make.

  • Max Grimm says:

    @Norman
“The joint donation is estimated at 60,000 Euros.”
    – The joint donation is estimated at 60,000 Euros.

“…donated their fees to an educational charity…”
    – €30.000 were donated to “Integration durch Bildung e.V” (engl. Integration through Education) and €30.000 were donated to “Interaction Leipzig e.V.”.

In addition to Blomstedt’s and Mutter’s fees, the musicians of the Gewandhausorchester were ‘off the clock’.

  • Steve P says:

This is the kind of gesture I like to see. Next step is for these stars to sponsor an actual refugee in their home.

    • Dave says:

      Don’t get carried away there!

    • Sue says:

Completely agree. Time to walk the walk if you’re talking the talk.

      • Bruce says:

        Donating 30,000 euros doesn’t count?

        • Max Grimm says:

No. One also has to fulfill stipulations handed down by complete strangers in order to spend ones own money.
I wonder if “walk the walk if you’re talking the talk” means that we will see Sue volunteering her weekends assisting border-patrol or Steve P sponsoring an immigration officer in his home.

          • Bruce says:

Ah yes, of course. Silly of me.

No doubt they are already doing so and their nobility of character restrains them from mentioning it in public, lest it look like boasting.

          • Peter says:

I heard Sue is donating heavily to the NRA, so she is fine in walking the trigger. Dona nobis armis. Et bellum in terra.

          • Sue says:

No, I don’t support wholesale immigration. If I did, though, I’d have to put myself in the crucible otherwise I’d just be a hypocrite.

          • Max Grimm says:

            @Sue
I know you don’t, hence “assisting border-patrol” (…in keeping the unwanted ones out).

        • Sue says:

I does count; they’re putting their money where their mouths currently are. Wish I could say the same for the majority.

  • Alexander says:

any educational donation is blessed … hopefully one day they will donate to the development of classical music amidst kids of their own nationality, or, at least , in the countries of ORIGIN of those refugees , it would have more sense … just my opinion of course …

  • Sue says:

@Max: I pay taxes for our government to do that job controlling borders.

    • Max Grimm says:

Blomstedt and Mutter pay taxes too and they donated money to charity, which some deem to be insufficient still…
-Steve P: “Next step is for these stars to sponsor an actual refugee in their home.”
-Sue: “Completely agree. Time to walk the walk if you’re talking the talk.”
You’ve given us “the talk” regarding refugees/immigration in multiple posts on SD, I sincerely hope that you’re doing more than simply paying your taxes to keep immigration low and potentially dangerous refugees out.
