    He’s had an incredible career and it nearly all came to an end in the 1980s when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Good luck Jose.

    I remember riding to Salzburg in March 1988 to hear him sing in Die Schöpfung — is this possible? — only to discover the Brahms Requiem had been substituted because of his illness.
