  • Olassus says:

Shosty 14 needs native Russian singers.

  • AB says:

Opolais is bilingual. Actually a native Russian speaker

  • Respect says:

Actually, to sing Tristan, you have to sing three acts…..

  • Ungeheuer says:

If he doesn’t blow it singing Otello. Fingers crossed.

    • Olassus says:

The Andrea Chénier I heard in the theater two weeks ago (outsung by the Madelon) was in no way the voice of an Otello. The Forza Alvaro of 2013 perhaps might have been, at some point in the then future. Alas.

That is where we are. This is at heart a lyric voice, a Lied artist, a broad mind, a musician of taste and style and sensitivity — not to be ruined.

      Call it off, Pappano!

      • Zelda Macnamara says:

The ROH Otello will be live-streamed to cinemas. We are waiting to see what happens…..

        • cynical bystander says:

I assume that Gregory Kunde is keeping his diary clear to cover the “SOLD OUT” JK performances.

          • Waltraud Becker says:

Watched two later performances of ACh from München; JK was incredibly good! See YT from 18. March!!!

  • Ungeheuer says:

It’s not the whole of T&I but only Act II

  • John says:

I hope he is up to it after his troubles. He could be a sensational Tristan.

  • Sue says:

Sexy and a wonderful singer. Go Jonas!!

  • herrera says:

Concur with others, to “debut as Tristan” you have to sing the whole thing, in an opera house.

  • AB says:

There are rumors that JK is supposed to sing a new staged production of Tristan in Munich in 2018-19.

  • Dave says:

I’d have thought he’d be singing Isolde as well. And I concur with the thing about one act only does not a “sings Tristan” make.

  • urania says:

So sorry, all seems to be just big business in the opera world today and about headlines!
He is no Chenier and will not be an Otello or Tristan, he is always JK, a guy with a good voice who is out there to get famous.

    • Tinkerbell says:

Totally agree. He will never sing at the Met again – the house is too big. His fan base is Europe & mature ladies who follow him around, buy his CDs & DVDs & have made him believe he is the greatest living tenor. When he sings Nessun Dorma he strains so I fear something will burst. I’d like to see Kunde & Castronova in NY more often

  • mate says:

By the way this will be in Carnegie Hall, NY, *with* the Boston Symphony Orchestra…

  • Lois Silverstein says:

Let’s not involve our petty squabbles over a human artist doing what he does best; the rest is commentary, all based on our biases. May we enjoy what he has to offer as well as what other artists bring? Many fine Tristans have appeared and will again; also Andreases and Parsifals and Caravadossiis.. So be it. Let’s celebrate our luck in having all these feasts of music.

  • Urania says:

Celebrating!? Ok, go celebrating, but do not talk for all people here.

  • Katherine Roppel says:

I cannot possibly know what JK’s motivations are except that I believe he loves opera and by his own admission is more interested in projecting emotional authenticity than in striving for vocal perfection. He’s in charge of what kind of man he wants to be and we can accept it or not depending on how kindly disposed we are.
