The mistress of Bayreuth has been booked to direct Tannhäuser at the Leipzig Opera next season.

She does not get many guest requests.

For its 325th anniversary year, Leipzig Opera wants a Wagner on board. The city is where Richard Wagner was born.

Comments

  • Edgar Brenninkmeyer says:

Assuming Leipzig Opera will present the piece with first rate singers, it will be worth hearing the new production. One can always wear an eye mask…;-)

  • Joseph Lengly says:

If this production will be like her productions in Bayreuth, just don’t go to see it.
Save your money to see this opera somewhere else.

  • Bogda says:

She is also directing a new Lohengrin production in Prague this july

  • Florian says:

The Lohengrin in Prague will only be the revival of a production her late father directed.

  • colette kennedy says:

I woud never go to see an opera with Kaharina Wagner as a stage director or whatever.Bayreuth was enough; she is ruining her ancestor’s works

  • David Foulger says:

My deepest sympathies to both Leipzig and Prague.

  • Peter says:

She stands for what is wrong with the classical music business. Based too much on nepotism and too little on achievement. Nobody would ask her to work for them, if it wasn’t for her great grandfather’s name.

  • Bogda says:

Matter of personal taste. I actually think that her Meistersingers in Bayreuth was a very brave and interesting production and i’ve enjoyed it tremendously. Tristan, on the other side, was very much liked by both critics and audience in Bayreuth, I was not fully convinced, though first and last act were very impressive. So I’m glad that she is working in other cities and specially that she is coming to Prague
