In a resounding message to Washington and Mexico City, youth orchestras from the US and Mexico have been giving joint concerts this week around the area where the wall is supposed to go.

The concerts, titled ‘The Bridge’, were given by the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra and Esperanza Azteca Symphony Orchestra of Ciudad Juarez.

  • Petros Linardos says:

    Way to go.

  • PaulD says:

Resounding message? Since most Americans don’t care about orchestral music, I would say they are playing for the already converted.

    • V.Lind says:

People can only do what they can do. What these young people do is make music. If everyone reached out in order to build bridges in their own sphere of life, things might be a little more…harmonious.

    • Marg says:

It is not uncommon for people who dont think their voice will be heard very far to never the less speak out, and it becomes a movement. Malala Yousafzai, a school girl who attracted global attention with her small voice, is a good example. I applaud young people doing anything they can to stand up for what they believe.

  • Steinway Fanatic says:

The lesson of love is learned from children. The lesson of hate is learned from adults.

    • Keith Shaw says:

The wall that will be built is to protect your own skin from being murdered by many criminals who come to USA illegally. That way you’ll be safe and able to make music. Open your eyes and don’t be so naive!!!

      • Gotcha Covered says:

And you just keep drinking that kool-aid! The American room-temperature I.Q.’s will do us more harm than those Mexican criminals.

    • Petros Linardos says:

We can only hope that the hater-in-chief stands as a negative role model to most people.

  • Michael Emmerson says:

May I add a word from Mexico City? First of all ESPERANZA AZTECA is one of the great youth orchestra movements of the world comprising more than eighty youth orchestras all over Mexico, San Salvador and Los Angeles. They are run by a private foundation FUNDACION AZTECA and offer musical opportunities to more than twenty thousand young people, many from impoverished backgrounds. Given the present state of relations between the USA with its bellicose President and Mexico, this joint performance “The Bridge” offers a beacon of hope to people of goodwill on both sides of the Border. Let’s hope that this is just the first of many such collaborations and Bravo to the young musicians of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez for leading the way!
