The composer and oratorio singer Tristan Clais has died at the age of 87.

A student of Igor Markevitch, he was fascinated by surrealism and explored affinities with graphics and collages.

He was also a prominent broadcaster.

  • Luk Vaes says:

“Leading”? I am Belgian, have been active in the new music scene for 35 years and never heard of this name.

  • Peter says:

Clais was indeed well known as a broadcaster for RTBF – if I’m not mistaken. He was a composer – albeit a really “unusual” one.

    • John Borstlap says:

He seems to have been a visual artist rather than a composer, when you see the score samples on his website.
