Tonight, Kathleen Battle returns to the Met

Twenty-two years after she was sacked by Met boss Joe Volpe for ‘unprofessional actions … profoundly detrimental to artistic collaboration’, the lyric soprano returns tonight in recital of Spirituals.

It’s an elegant way of laying things to rest.

  • Great Concert. She sounded marvelous. Her voice spun, was fresh —- really inspired. The choir was great. Their soloists also gifted with lovely voices. “an’ ain’t I a woman?” read by Cecily Tyson was brilliant. The harpist, the pianist, Wynston Marcellis all inspired!
