Robert Trevino, 32, has been named principal conductor of the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra in San Sebastian, capital of the Basque region of Spain.
He succeeds Jun Märkl next September.
Trevino, from Fort Worth, has only conducted the Basque orchestra twice.

Interesting. Trevino is the 3rd US conductor to chosen recently to head a major Spanish orchestra. He joins fellow Texan John Axelrod, Music Director of Sevilla and Erik Nielsen
of Iowa, new Music Director of Bilbao.
Both Axelrod and Nielsen are getting rave reviews both from their orchs. and their respective publics.This new acceptance of US conductors bucks a backlash of at least a decade in accepting US conductors into Spanish orchestras. They just haven´t been too welcome.
Watching carefully for possible new appointments: Filarmonica de Gran Canarias is on a conductor search as is RTVE in Madrid. Don´t believe there are any US candidates in the running for either job, but who knows what might happen!
