Asking the same question. Today´s Helsingin sanomat´s running long stories about Saariaho and Salonen while printing a short press release. The photograph with Lewis Lipnick was taken by Peter Kislinger.
Will Finland also give a State Prize to Leif Segerstam upon his no-doubt-soon completion of his 16,000th Symphony???
The Committee began reviewing his work in 2007, but every time they arrived at a conclusion, there appeared to be a number of fresh symphonies to be considered, a process which repeated itself untill 2012 and then they gave-up.
Leif Segerstam was awarded in 2004 for his 105 symphonies. So, yes, he has been awarded. (No joke)
Aha…. but then they missed-out on nr 106, which is as well, since that one was a bit disappointing.
I’m a bit biased, but Aho’s Contrabassoon Concerto (commissioned and premiered by Lew Lipnick, on the right in the photo above) is a really good piece.
Couldn´t agree more.
