For 29 years, from Milton Cross’s death in January 1975 to Götterdämmerung in April 2014. Peter Allen was the radio voice of the Metropolitan Opera (he was followed by Margaret Juntwait, until her early death last year).

Peter has died, aged 96. Obit here.

This is his retirement message.

I really liked Margaret Juntwait – gone much too soon – but for my childhood and well into adulthood, Peter Allen was definitely, despite his protestations, the “voice of the MET.” (BTW, you might want to correct his retirement year to 2004).
