  • Peter says:

Jackets in Berlin are tighter fits apparently.

  • Andrew Barnard says:

The headline would seem apt for describing the author, less so for a legendary orchestra signing on an exciting new conductor.

  • Olassus says:

Does anyone know the term of the Petrenko deal? 5 years? Life?

    Seriously.

    • Max Grimm says:

Per the agreement of both parties, the contract does not have a fixed term. The only stipulation is a minimum of 7 years together.
While the contract is to be in place for an indefinite period, either party may naturally call for amendments or give notice, once the minimum seven year term has passed.

      • Olassus says:

        Thanks, Max. Interesting.

I wonder what the period of notice would be. 3 years or so, I would guess.

I’m not sure it’s going to be a heavenly as they seem to think, either commercially or artistically. But who knows?

        • Max Grimm says:

Personally, I am looking forward with interest to see what the Berlin Phil-Petrenko combination will bring but I agree with you. With a few more years of joyous anticipation and prefatory hype to go, the risk of unrealised expectations and eventual disappointment is rather high.

      • Olassus says:

        *as* heavenly

  • Brian Hughes says:

    Slow news day, Norman?

  • Hans-Dieter Glaubke says:

Vapid! Vacuous! Wherein lies anything relating to musical interests, Mr. Leberecht?
