The maestro dropped by the gorgeous Capodimonte Museum in his native town Naples on Sunday and couldn’t resist a challenge to play one of its historic pianos.

Graham Spicer has the story – and the video – here.

Historic or just plain out of tune?

    • John Kelly says:

Definitely out of tune but it’s nice to see Muti smiling, that wasn’t a big part of his act when he was MD of the Phillies back in the 80s (though there was actually plenty to smile about as the concerts were generally really excellent).

  • Cyril Blair says:

“A little girl asked Bellenger [the museum director] what the most valuable thing in the museum is; You are, he answered.”

That’s sweet! And she will remember it.

  • Cyril Blair says:

Incidentally if you want to see Muti free again, there is a free concert, no tickets or reservations required, with the CSO on Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 at the Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. The program is the Beethoven 5th symphony and the Leonore Overture No. 3.

  • Stephen says:

Molfetta, just north of Bari, is Muti’s hometown. He was born in Naples because his mother believed her children should be born in a place people would have heard of.
