Black Lives Matter NY concert is scrapped over Israel clause

A concert in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, which should have been held this week at Feinstein’s/54 Below has been cancelled due to the Israel-Palestine issue.

Here’s what ticket-holders were told by email:

‘The owners and managers of [the venue] strongly believe in and support the general thrust of the goals and objectives of BLM. However, since announcing the benefit they’ve become aware of a recent addition to the BLM platform that accuses Israel of genocide and endorses a range of boycott and sanction actions.

‘Feinstein’s/54 Below would have preferred to hold the concert in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, without endorsing or appearing to endorse the entirety of the Black Lives Matter organization and its platform but we’ve found that a distinction impossible for us to effect.

‘As we can’t support these positions, we’ve accordingly decided to cancel the concert.

‘We’re sorry about this unfortunate situation which has not dimmed our commitment to supporting social justice.’

Mission creep. I didn’t know they had enough of an organization even have a “platform”

    • Jim says:

You must be living under a rock.

    • Alvaro says:

Another enlightened human being who listens to mozart, beethoven and bach yet has NO problem being a racist POS, thus proving that listening to classical music doesnt makeyou smarter, more sensitive, or any of the BS they sell. It just makes you more pretentious..

  • Jaybuyer says:

Please read the Sunday Times article “Black Lives Matter UK is funded by taxpayers” from September 11th. We are being made mugs of.

    • George Porter says:

Someone who is one of the leaders of BLMUK has (had) a sub-contract from a contractor to the DfID to do some work for them. So BLMUK is NOT funded by taxpayers.

  • Ellingtonia says:

For anyone wanting to know the real problem with BLM I suggest you have a look at this video which lasts under 2 minutes. The truth is very painful for some people…….

    • Jim says:

What evidence do you have that black people are not concerned about violence perpetrated by black people? Other than the lame staged video you posted (if you consider that an example of the”truth”, that says all we need to know). I think you are confused about the mission of BLM.

      • Maria says:

It’s a perfectly valid, alternative point of view that hardly ever gets an airing on the MSM.

        • Jim says:

You may feel that way. Where’s your evidence to support that viewpoint?

        • Jim says:

On the other hand, there’s plenty of evidence to counter your point. Here’s some from the BLM website:
The idea that black-on-black crime is not a significant political conversation among black people is patently false. In Chicago, long maligned for its high rates of intraracial murder, members of the community created the Violence Interrupters to disrupt violent altercations before they escalate. However, those who insist on talking about black-on-black crime frequently fail to acknowledge that most crime is intraracial. Ninety-three percent of black murder victims are killed by other black people. Eighty-four percent of white murder victims are killed by other white people. The continued focus on black-on-black crime is a diversionary tactic, whose goal is to suggest that black people don’t have the right to be outraged about police violence in vulnerable black communities, because those communities have a crime problem. The Black Lives Matter movement acknowledges the crime problem, but it refuses to locate that crime problem as a problem of black pathology. Black people are not inherently more violent or more prone to crime than other groups. But black people are disproportionately poorer, more likely to be targeted by police and arrested, and more likely to attend poor or failing schools. All of these social indicators place one at greater risk for being either a victim or a perpetrator of violent crime. To reduce violent crime, we must fight to change systems, rather than demonizing people.

          • Brian B says:

When nearly 80% of people are born to unstable or nonexistent families, dysfunctionality and crime rates clearly out of proportion to their numbers is inevitable.

          • Maria says:

“Ninety-three percent of black murder victims are killed by other black people. Eighty-four percent of white murder victims are killed by other white people.”

It’s a combination of murder rate AND the intraracial factor, as I think you know perfectly well. The particular problem presented by gangland shootings and the negative culture that seems to encourage it does not affect poor white communities to anything like the same extent.

Finally, I’m not sure how text lifted from the BLM website amounts to “evidence”.

          • jim says:

Maria, you can keep spouting off unsubstantiated opinions all day – you will convince no one but those already predisposed to believing black people have a “negative culture that seems to encourage” violence. Where is your evidence that poor white communities are not also affected?

If black people have a “negative culture that seems to encourage” violence, why is support for gun control so much higher among black people than white people? Look at this – I’ll even provide evidence (you may want to look that word up)

“It’s a combination of murder rate AND the intraracial factor, as I think you know perfectly well.” I don’t have a clue what you are talking about. If you could explain, without using conjecture, that would be helpful.

Your point was that BLM doesn’t care about “black on black” crime – I merely pointed to their own words to show that they do indeed. That’s evidence under any definition. I’m still waiting to see yours.

          • Mark says:

BLM are NOT staging mass protests and blocking traffic to fulminate against black on black murders and other crimes which are far, far more pervasive and frequent than the killings of blacks by police. All your stats mean nothing when BLM are only agitating against the police — and adding an anti-semitic component to their sometimes near-riots.

          • jim says:

“Black on black” murders and systemic police brutality against black people are two entirely different subjects. BLM has their focus as a movement; there are countless organizations that focus on reducing violence in African-American communities. That you are ignorant of them or of the mission of BLM is not BLM’s problem. Unfortunately, there is enough police brutality against black people in the US that a whole movement can devote itself to this problem – again, your ignorance of this issue is not BLM fault.

          • Ellingtonia says:

If there are countless organisations that focus on reducing violence in African American communities as you say, they appear to be doing a very ineffective job. And given the number of black lives lost by black on black killing as against the comparatively smaller numbers allegedly killed by police, perhaps BLM could spend a little more time in their own communities. No one is suggesting that the killing of someone by a police officer should be taken lightly, but that applies be they black or white. And if the police have transgressed then hold them accountable, but not by a politically motivated “witch hunt.”
BLM see to want to blame anyone but their own communities for the devastating high loss of black lives which have been perpetrated by other black people.
And whats with this term African American, most black Americans have never been near Africa, and given the insularity of the USA probably don’t know where Africa is (a sizeable proportion of Americans thought the UK was attached to Europe by land!). I think I may have to coin the phrase English Danish as my nationality as the vikings tended to run riot in Northern England a good many years ago.
We have had four middle class “do gooders” (all white) disrupting a London airport in support of BLM, all from privileged backgrounds but I am still trying to figure out WTF they are doing here in London and what the hell the airport has got to do with things.
It is all about political posturing…………..

          • Alvaro says:

Its very simple: if whote crimes are not even qualified as such, they wont go to the statistics.
Dont believe me? Talk to the stanford kid who raped an unconscious woman and was set free this week, and more than a dozen other cases of blatant felonies that are simply looked over. The Judges defense stated “jail wouldbe too hard on him”.

A white person in america can easily get away with murder, even with video proof. So, my dear Ellingtonia/ Jim and Maria, would you feel safer sendind your daughter to college with Jerome, the black kid, or with Kyle, the fratboy? I hope you dont have to live through that experience to realize just how much full of S you really are…

  • Mitch says:

It’s funny there are two countries that are involved in this issue and you only mention one in your head line” Isreal”. Even I who is Jewish thought here we go again. All lives matter, but maybe abl should learn history. Many Jews marched with Mr. King and other black leaders for cilival rights back in the day. How quickly we forget.

  • kwonco says:

First we get Jesse Jackson, then Al Sharpton, now BLM: what a pathetic, small-minded, ignorant, self-serving collection of negative energy

The REV MLK, one of the truly great leaders of the 20th century, must be rolling over in his grave.
