It has been announced that the soprano Greta Bradman will make her Opera Australia debut next season as Mimì in La Bohème, sharing the role with Nicole Car.

Greta is the granddaughter of the greatest batsman that ever wore the baggy green cap.

Earlier this year she cut a debut disc on Decca after touring India with Zubin Mehta.

Why, every time that I hear her name mentioned it is in relation to Donald Bradman? Is she not worth anything in her own right?
Is recording a CD with Decca and working with Mehta not good enough?

There is enough to write about her without mentioning her grandfather which, as far as I can tell, has nothing to do with music whatsoever.

I agree. She is well regarded and loved here in Oz in her own right as a singer. It reminds me of how women who get to the top are so often spoken of in terms of who their well own husband is. Just refer to her as Greta Bradman, period.

  • Willi Philips says:

Norman, no one ‘cuts’ a disc anymore. No one.
