  • Petunia says:

How many Palestinians are receiving the same scholarship?

    • Wurtfangler says:

Palestinians? They don’t have culture do they? Not according to some anyway … they just have ‘propaganda’.

    • Harold Lewis says:

As the text makes clear, the scholarships are being provided by a foundation intended specifically to assist Israeli musicians. Arab music students living in Israel would be eligible to benefit from its philanthropy. As for ‘Palestinian’ students, Middle East oil revenues would doubtless be sufficient to fund a comparable gesture on the part of some foundation in Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

    • Michael Smith says:

The scholarship does not discriminate between Jewish and Arab candidates.

    • Alan Simons says:

My dear Petunia, if you read the content carefully, instead of getting your knickers in a frazzle, you will notice that the scholarships have been provided for “Israeli students.” In Israel that doesn’t mean just Jews, but also Arab Christian and Muslims, Druze, Bedouin and all citizens of the country, irrespective of colour, race or religion. Simply, that is what happens in a democratic country where apartheid ‘does NOT exist!’

      • Patrick says:

Condescending, patronising and misinformed….Israeil IS the South Africa of old!

        • tati says:

and you are brainwashed, narrow-minded ….North Korea!

        • Tommo says:

And what would you know about South Africa of old? A country decimated by world leftists and ANC terrorists armed by Soviet Russia and goaded on by Britain, the commonwealth and world council of churches. Never was there so much world power bought to bear on a single nation fighting for its life under the guise of being an apartheid state. It had nothing to do with apartheid but the removal of white rule from southern Africa. There was no apartheid in Rhodesia but it was fighting a war on three fronts which eventually bought the country to it’s knees and the white government was removed and replaced by a black racist despot who is still in power today.

          • Patrick says:

I lived there pal, apartheid regime through and through, and now Israel has taken its place

          • Heath says:

If Apartheid exists then how did an Arab Muslim doctor treat my Jewish mother in an Israeli hospital? And why is there a law that there must be one Arab – speaking doctor of every floor of every hospital in Israel? And how is it that Arab Muslims are lawyers and judges in the courts over all Israelis? And how is it that they are members of the knesset? Silly Patrick. Nothing but a hate-filled mind trying to spread propaganda.

          • George King says:

‘… a single nation fighting for its life under the guise of being an apartheid state’? I am a South African and I’ve lived in that country for most of my 69 years. The ‘single nation’ was a minority of about 10% of the total population: the very much divided Afrikaner ruling clique (motivated by Calvinism and a messianic complex) along with the English-speaking whites, most of whom quietly acquiesced and who were themselves mainly descended from some of the most racially intolerant people on earth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries — the British. (Disclaimer: both my mother and my maternal grandparents were born in the UK and on my father’s side I claim both British and French Huguenot ancestry.)

        • Mark says:

Patrick, if stupidity could be sold for profit, you’d be a billionaire !

  • Alan Simons says:

Oh dear! Did I start this belligerent discussion? Why don’t we simply keep to the subject matter and congratulate The Polonsky Foundation for their gesture. What a wonderful gift for the music world and RCM. Enough of this hate and intolerance!

    • Patrick says:

Yes, you did with your belligerent and misinformed point about Israel…..Apartheid exists, end of.

  • David Lyons says:

Nothing will change the hate filled comments by Patrick and his ilk. We who know Israel also are witnesses to coexistence between Arabs and Jews at every level of society. We also know of the extraordinary contribution Israel has made to the world in science, technology and artistic performance.
It is wonderful that Israeli musicians are being given this support to enhance their future careers in music. Bravo Polonsky Foundation.

    • Wurtfangler says:

And an example of this commitment to ‘peaceful coexistence’ – a British conductor gets classed as ‘high security risk’ at Ben Gurion Airport simply for daring to make music with the ‘wrong’ young people. Shameful.

      • David says:

Cause its so easy to get in to united states isn’t it? reality check- some people want to kill people in Israel just because they are jews. These security checks are necessary
