Prosecutors in Fort Worth, Texas, say that they will not demand the death penalty for Sofya Tsygankova if she is found guilty of culpable homicide in the deaths of her two children four months ago.

Tsygankova, 32, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The estranged wife of Cliburn winning pianist Vadym Kholodenko, she is being held in jail, unable to raise a $2 million bond.

  • Greg from SF says:

I’m relieved about this. She is obviously a very sick and disturbed individual.

    • Holly Golightly says:

And it’s a comforting thought to consider she may be free in a much shorter period of time than if she had been well!! That’s good news for everybody. She may even be able to re-marry.

  • Robert Holmén says:

She won’t be getting out, Ms. Golightly.

I’ll note that there is no “culpable homicide” in Texas.

Murder, Capital Murder, Manslaughter, Negligent Homicide are the options

This case is “Capital Murder” because a victim was under 10 years of age.

If the death penalty isn’t applied then the penalty is life imprisonment.
