Alberto Veronesi resigned today as music director of theĀ Festival Puccini Torre del Lago.

He had been under pressure for weeks over his political connections and the disaffection of musicians in the orchestra.

Quite right too, otherwise he should have been sacked.
He walked out after the first act of Tosca on the opening night last Friday, leaving the singers and musicians in the lurch, making a ridiculous speech citing his bitterness over recent local political shenanigans, and having the bad taste to link them with the tragedy in Nice.
I think it is safe to say he will not be greatly missed.

Maestros… Strange and difficult persons… Next time just call me šŸ™‚

  • La Verita says:

Veronesi simply can’t conduct – PERIOD.

  • Novagerio says:

This man has no shame. The son of Life Time Senator Umberto Veronesi, a world renowned cancer-surgeon (who by the way cured Domingo a few years, and with some notorious payback!), this “Maestro” has bought a “career” in Torre di Lago, Deutsche Grammophon, the Vienna Philharmonic (who accepts to play under just anybody who gives them millions of ā‚¬ – just think of Gilbert Kaplan), the New York City Opera Company and a long etc, all with his dad’s money in order to gain “podium control “, and now he wants to moralize italian arts politics!…
