Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer has called off the state reception for the opening of the Bayreuth Festival on Monday as a mark of respect for victims and families of the Munich attack.

The celebrity red carpet catwalk will also be scrapped.

Seehofer and other political leaders have notified the festival that, in present circumstances, they cannot attend.

    Goooood!!!!

  • John Borstlap says:

Revealing, again, the general ‘Anständigkeit’, correctness, of German society and politics, which is also indicated by the absence of a wave of wutbürgerliche anti-immigrant rallies as a reaction to the Munich shooting.

    • Jaybuyer says:

Mr Borstlap, I have noticed that autocorrect sometimes gets the better of you, but if ‘wutbürgerlich’ is what you meant to write, I think it’s brilliant.
And while we are at it, Bayreuth’s Ring is being transmitted live and gratis on Sky Arts next weekend. Amazing!

      • Gabriele Weissmann says:

Where is the “Ring” being shown “gratis”? Maybe in the UK.
I live in Berlin and it is quite expensive to pay for registering and a yearly subscription. Grateful for any info or link.

        • Peter Erdos says:

starting on 30th july on sky arts tv, das rheingold.

        • Jaybuyer says:

Yes, Frau Weissmann, I live in the UK. Sky TV seems to have made a deal with Bayreuth to show the whole of the Ring live, starting on Saturday. Of course, it’s only available to Sky subscribers or people like me who subscribe to Virgin cable TV. Perhaps Arte, 3 sat or Bayern Klassik will do German television viewers the honour

    • Peter says:

you must have missed the news, that the Munich shooting was in fact a very wütend, even though not exactly bürgerlich, anti-immigrant rally already.

  • Liam says:

Parsifal was on br klassik this evening. Live video streaming

    • Jaybuyer says:

Yes, and wasn’t it fun? Parsifal as Prince Harry in full army gear, waving an AK47? around (the swan had no chance), burkas and the inevitable rumpy pumpy, this time on a table.
“And the Oscar for best actress” goes to Kundry who had to partake in that and later show signs of Parkinson’s disease in the 3rd Act. At least Amfortas kept his nappy on.

      • Gabriele says:

Could not participate in Parsifal last night, but will probably have another chance. Love reading all the witty – geistreiche – comments, one of the best things on S.D. Friends in England will record the Ring and send us a DVD.
        Thank you Jaybuyer.

  • Eric B says:

Well, GOOD !! Maybe this will free seats for those who are really interested in the MUSIC and not the glamour and show-off ?
