No reviews yet of last night’s Lohengrin in Dresden, but the ovations lasted 15 minutes and first social media murmurings suggest that Anna Netrebko’s Elsa, to Piotr’s Beczala’s Lohengrin, was the stuff of dreams.

Is it being broadcast at any point?

First reviews are available, now. E.g., the review of German radio station BR Kassik is very positive. In spite of some minor shortcomings of her German pronunciation they seem to be enthusiastic about Netrebko’s singing and performance. They also compliment Piotr Beczala’s singing. Orchestra and conductor are said to be in their best.

Reviews by people who did not pay for their tickets fully by themselves are always irrelevant. Period. Might as well read PRAWDA to find the truth.

      • M2N2K says:

Like most sweeping generalizations, this one is deeply flawed too. Reviews by paying customers can be just as clueless as those by paid scribes. Conversely, reviews by knowledgeable professionals can be and sometimes are as valid and worthy of respect as any.

  • Joachim says:

This seems to be one of very few reviews in English, and possibly the most detailed:
