It has been announced that next month’s Lugano festival of Martha Argerich and friends will be the last.

The BSI bank said it was pulling out after 15 years and no other sponsor has been found.

Martha, who is 75 next month, made the festival a unique setting for informal music making, far into the night. It’s a sad way to end.

Perhaps a new door will open to fresh opportunities. Cannot imagine other sponsors won’t take notice.

  • Sam says:

This is the most authentic, non-glitz and corporate schmooze, pure music festival anywhere in the world. A musician’s paradise. This is the worst news I have read in years…

  • L.F. says:

The sponsor BSI = Banca della Svizzera Italiana has just lost its banking license in Switzerland and Singapur because of a major scandal that probably will touch other financial institutions too.

  • Ilona Oltuski says:

This is such an unfortunate loss for the music world. It’s hard to imagine other sponsors won’t pick up on the opportunity to get involved!

  • Alison Minkus says:

Sponsors out there? This is something to maintain into the future…
