A former World Bank official took up the harpsichord in retirement. Then she and a neighbour started putting on Baroque concerts with well-known artists in their suburban homes.

Lovely story with a lifestyle twist, in the Washington Post.

Kudos to these ladies for showcasing this kind of talent in an intimate setting in their homes. It is something more of us should do. In Schubert’s era, this was where music was regularly performed.

Love it! I much prefer baroque music in very intimate settings to a concert hall. Some of the emerging ensembles in my city can’t afford a recital hall and as yet won’t attract big numbers so they play in very small spaces, where audience numbers are only a few dozen, and it’s wonderfully intimate. I hope they don’t grow, in one way!
