He is only the second conductor, after Sir Colin Davis, to be awarded that title.

  • Lloyd Arriola says:

A profound musician. I had the great good luck to hear him conduct the San Francisco Symphony as I was growing up in San Francisco. He conducted some heroic Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, Schoenberg, Strauss–and Nielsen! There were plans to play and record Reger and Hilding Rosenberg, but Decca scuttled those. May Blomstedt live to be 108 years of age, conducting till the end!

A lovely interview again transcribed between Bruce Duffie in Chicago and Blomstedt some years ago. Worth reading to get into the mind of this profound musician.
