Cellist? That sure looks like a double bass he is playing in the picture. And the instrument has an Underwood double bass pickup on the bridge.

I only met Johnterryl two years ago but saw him at least once a week. He would come into the cafe where I work and we would shoot the breeze..very funny human. Sometimes I would get a closing time bass solo. I will miss that and him very much. R

  • Ray Seymour says:

Terry and I grew up together in North Tampa. He was a dear and talented friend and we stayed in touch. Just 2 weeks ago he called to arrange a date to go to dinner. He brought his latest CD to me some months ago.

We are losing more friends to different illnesses but this is horrific! He was in good health.

  • Mike Binsky says:

Terry played a duo concert for me here in Baltimore, this last year. He played it with the great jazz pianist Larry Willis. Terry also played at a jazz club I ran back in ’70s-80’s. Very good bass player. Great guy and great player.

  • Phil Marston says:

Terry will be dearly missed. For those of us priveledged enough to have known and played with him he was a joy and an inspiration. As a person and musician he was world class. We are better for having had him in our lives. R.I.P.

  • Nannette Brodie says:

I was friends with Terry for a year when he was playing with Roberta Flack. Only recently a year ago did I look at his accomplishments online. I have a modern dance company in Los Angeles and thought I would ask him for permission to use his music for a dance project. It is truly shocking to hear of his death.
