  • Eddie Mars says:

Good to see another woman conductor. To repair hundreds of years of prejudice, it is our duty to ensure as many positions as possible are given to women. If it were down to me, we would have a ban on hiring men until there is parity.

    • Doug says:

That’s right. When it comes to art, to hell with artistry. What we want is equality! The lowest common denominator!

      • Cyril Blair says:

Do either of you know this particular woman’s work and qualifications, or is being piggish just a knee-jerk reaction that comes over you when women are mentioned?

    • Emil Archambault says:

So you’re essentially still judging women based on gender, by claiming not to do so (as your reasoning goes: she’s a woman, therefore she got the job because of her gender). What an enlightened chap you are.

I’m also disappointed to see that NL continues with his covert sexist practise of referring to women familiarly by first names only.

      • Bruce says:

NL does it for some men, too (particularly “Yannick”), but to me that too seems a little lacking in respect since he seems to pick & choose who is worthy of being addressed like a grown-up.

And yes — I don’t understand the clearly-visible assumption that if a woman gets a job, she must have been hired over a more-qualified man. Even if the impostor version of “Eddie Mars” wrote the first post (and it’s not at all clear that he did), Doug’s response picks it up and runs with it.
