One step back: Hvorostovsky cancels Salzburg

Dmitri Hvorostovsky, who is receiving renewed treatment for brain cancer, has withdrawn from Verdi’s Otello at the Salzburg Easter Festival.

Carlos Álvarez will replace him as Iago.

    It’s great that Christian Thielemann is returning to Otello (after 20 years), but what a crappy cast for what was once a prestigious festival!

      Crappy cast here or there, much more important surely is the fact that this great baritone appears to have had some kind of a relapse. One can only wish him well and a speedy and complete recovery.

    It may not be a relapse, general fatigue after such treatment would be completely understandable.
