Rosana Martins, in Rio, has shared this backstage get-together of four old pals and one new at the Philharmonie in Paris.

Rosna writes: The recital took place in one of the small halls in the Philharmonie and was organized by André Furno, the founder of the concert series “Piano **** ” in homage to his late wife. All the artists travelled performed without fee, including Elisabeth Leonskaja, cellist Edgar Moreau and Valentina Lisitsa. It was a private concert only for invited guests, among which were Alfred Brendel and Caecilia Bartoli, very good friends of the deceased.

The second from the right is Didier de Cottignies, the Orchestre de Paris artistic advisor, who was there as a guest.

The rest are used to having their names up in lights.

Name them?

  • Frédéric Chopin says:

Ivry Gitlis, Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, Yuja Wang, Didier de Cottignies and Radu Lupu. But they’re not old at all !

    • milka says:

Frederic was not too pleased with Liszt and company it would have been interesting to
note what he might have thought of this motley crew of entertainers

  • Camilo says:

Ivry Giltlis, Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, Yuja Wang, Didier de Cottignies and Radu Lupu. Wonderful picture!

  • debussyste says:

For me Radu Lupu is the greatest of this band by far ! I always remember his concerts while the memory of the concerts of Argerich or Freire fade with time . Yuja Wang is a little puppy compared to them.

  • Robert Roy says:

I wonder how many hours of practice they’ve clocked up between them…

  • anne karraj says:

It has nothing to do with the Orchestre de Paris ! Nor with a backstage “summit” of old pals ! Rosana has it wrong… not surprisingly.
It was a private concert in the new Paris’ Philharmonie last december in memory of the deceased wife of a Paris’ concert promotor. And this is the moment we all left after the dinner party. Offered by the promotor too.

    • Rosana says:

Dear Anne Karraj, I never wrote that it had any connection with the Orchestre de Paris. It was indeed organized by André Furno in memory of his deceased wife, Anne-Françoise. All the artists were friends of hers and performed without receiving a fee and also included Elisabeth Leonskaja, Valentina Lisitsa and Edgar Moreau.
Didier de Cottignies was there as an invited guest.

  • Peter says:

Composers are still the most important people in music, right?
I mean, what would we do without them?
    Selfies?
