Jonas Kaufmann has pulled out of his only appearances at the Met and Covent Garden this season.

Now he has cancelled the Teatro Real in Madrid. Acute sinusitis is the given cause.

Kaufmann has pulled out of something at the Met *this* season? He’s scheduled to anchor a new production of Manon Lescaut with Opolais. I’d be surprised if news of such a big withdrawal got by me. it.

Are you sure you don’t mean the two Met Carmens in March…which would be last season?

Correct… it was earlier last year.

Is it true he will sing all six movements of the Mahler? (TCE site implies this.)

  He said that Der Abscheid (as sung by Christa Ludwig) is his favorite (can’t live without) recording on BBC Desert Island Disk.
  I have a ticket. Will be historic. His previous performances of tenor part are among the best I’ve heard. Top of my “bucket list.”.
