Based in San Francisco and touring Europe, Asia and the Americas, the Cypress String Quartet have announced their breakup.

They will give a final concert in June, coinciding with the release (on Avie) of their recording of the complete Beethoven quartets. Good way to say goodbye.

The players – Cecily Ward, violin; Tom Stone, violin; Ethan Filner, viola; and Jennifer Kloetzel, cello – were groomed at the start of their career by members of the epic Amadeus Quartet.

We wish them individually every future success.

The picture is hilarious: four distraught characters on a classical ruin.

    Intonation?

They sound good. Never heard them before.
I would have never guessed they trained with the Amadeus. They sound like very good American players to me.
