The Mariinsky music director has completed his annexation of the Primorsky Opera, on Russia’s Pacific Coast.

The chief conductor at Primorsky will be Pavel Smelkov. Principal guest conductor is Vladislav Karklin. Both are Mariinsky regulars.

The artistic director is Larissa Diadkova, a former Mariinsky cast member.

The empire branches out.

And why not if they are good?

  • Eddie Mars says:

Normally SD would be rejoicing at a female AD. But no.

Let the troll-fest begin (as usual)

Her appointment was announced here last summer, if you click NL’s link. She has been of course a major artist, with a 17-year Met career and regular work in Western Europe as well as at the Mariinsky. I can’t imagine that the East Asia company could do much better, although the merging of two companies five time zones apart has never made sense to me.

      • M2N2K says:

Actually, Moscow is GMT+3 and Vladivostok is GMT+10 – so, not five but SEVEN time zones apart! Makes no sense at all, but does show the similarity of the conductor’s imperial ambitions to those of his favorite leader’s.

      Please learn the rules:

#1 anything Russki not openly opposing Putin is EVIL

#2 anything Germanic-Austrian not openly self-hating is EVIL

#3 anything male, not openly self-hating is EVIL

#4 anything heterosexual… you get it

#5 the priority is top down, so Russki EVIL beats female ANGELIC.

      Now back to the chorus…
