Mass illness causes Covent Garden to close show

Yesterday’s performance of Luigi Rossi’s Orpheus at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse was cancelled at a few hours notice yesterday by the Royal Opera House ‘due to several singers being ill’.

This seems to have been the final scheduled performance of a rediscovered baroque work.

  • I remember ringing in to Scottish Opera to say that I was seriously ill and not able to perform the role of Jenny in The Rise and Fall of The City of Mahagonny that day only to be told that everyone else was ill too BUT that the show would have to go on.
    And go on it did!
I sang the role on all fours with a bucket in the wings ready for me should I need it – which I did 🙂
