The home and mosque of the charismatic preacher Rachid Abou Houdeyfa have been raided during the night in Brest by dozens of security police. The operation is continuing. It is not clear if Rachid Abou Houdeyfa has been formally arrested.

You may have watched his video on Slipped Disc earlier this week, teaching small children that music is the devil’s creation and that Islam forbids them to learn to play an instrument.

However they do it, they have to shut him up.

  • NYMike says:

Put him in a cell and play Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky, etc. 24 hours/day.

  • Olaugh Turchev says:

Wanna bet he’ll be walking free?

  • B Bailey says:

Shakespeare, Merchant of Venice, Act V, l. 92-97. (see also Vaughan Williams under Serenade to Music ) The Bard pretty much said it all.

  • Peter Kislinger says:

    Antony and Cleopatra; II/5
Cleopatra: Give me some music; music, moody food
Of us that trade in love.

    Attendants. The music, ho!

    [Enter MARDIAN, the Eunuch]

Cleopatra. Let it alone; let’s to billiards: come, Charmian.

  • Mathieu says:

He has not been arrested since it was an administrative search — as allowed under the state of emerency — and not a search ordered by a judge. He would have been arrested only if the police had foubd evidence that he had committed a crime.

On a related matter, it bears pointing out that this guy, though nuts he may be (let´s be honest, he is crazy), is NOT a jihadist nor a terrorist and that he does not preach the cause of Daech in his mosque. In fact, he has forcefully condemned the Paris attacks as barbarous acts.

So not every conservative, or conservative-to-radical immam is not a terrorist. Most of them are assholes, though, such as this guy. But being an asshole is not yet forbidden by law.

    • Ellingtonia says:

Not every muslim is a terrorist, but 99% of terrorists are muslim. In a recent poll about the Charlie Hebdo murders 27% of those muslims polled said they had sympathy with the murders of the journalists, so let us dispense with this mantra of just an isolated few who despise our way of life, culture, values and most importantly freedom of speech.

      • Eddie Mars says:

So is Charlie Hebdo your ideal of ‘free speech’, then?

A cartoon showing Russian bodies falling out of the sky, after their airliner was blown to pieces by nutters, in mid-air? With a punchline about ‘last time I fly on Russian budget airlines’?

That’s your idea of ‘free speech’, is it?

        • V.Lind says:

Yes. You may not like it, but that right to publish even if Eddie Mars is offended is what makes it FREE. The French have accorded the same freedom to this stupid imam. I don’t like what he says, and I’m sure the French cops don’t either. But THEY did not charge in and massacre him and those around him — and take out a nearby Kosher shop for good measure.

          • Eddie Mars says:

Preach your neo-liberal piffle to the families in St Petersburg.

          • Eddie Mars says:

I see your friend Briard didn’t have the GUTS to satirise the Bataclan victims.

            Free speech? My A***

          • M2N2K says:

You probably should not worry about St.Petersburg’s families: they are not likely to go murdering people because of a tasteless cartoon. But if any of them are so inclined, then they *should* be preached about what free speech is: cartoons can be printed no matter how tasteless they are, but no one is obligated to buy such periodicals and look at them. And you may write what you think of those cartoons anywhere you want.

          • Eddie Mars says:

And where is the ‘free speech’ for the victims? When do they have their turn to speak?! Or is it only okey to attack dead children?

          • M2N2K says:

Victims rights are honored when justice is served for the murderers. Speech has nothing to do with it – justice does.

          • Eddie Mars says:

On the day when the spineless toads at Charlie Hebdo print insulting cartoons about the Bataclan victims, you’ll have a point.

Until then, it’s merely racism posing as ‘free’ speech (aka the European Union’s ‘right’ to spit on child’s grave).

But do please keep posting, It’s your right of Free Speech to spit on graves. Maybe you think it makes you look clever or liberal? I’ve got a hint for you – it doesn’t.

    • Voice Professor says:

Whilst I understand that he condemned the Paris attacks, am I alone in seeing the link between a teacher who teaches that all music is the devil’s creation and a group of extremists who targeted a concert hall? Who’s to say the youngsters to whom he oracles will not grow up to do similar things in later years because of the things they learned from their “teacher” at an earlier age??

  • Dave says:

When you allow people into your country and they don’t want to assimilate or have anything to do with the culture, what do you expect? French and Belgian citizen stay at home now and tourism is grinding to a halt. When will everyone wake up?

    • John Borstlap says:

Assimilation has to come from both sides. In France, many immigrants are simply ignored and left to linger away in awful banlieus turned into ghettos. Bridging cultural gaps is almost impossible if you have no work, no money, no decent place to stay, and you find every door closed to you. If you allow people settle in your country you have to make sure they will become members of society.

      • David says:

You said it yourself. These countries shouldn’t allow immigrants in knowing there are no jobs and that the government doesn’t plan to help these people in any way.
