US chamber orchestra shuts down

The Salem Chamber Orchestra in Oregon has cancelled the rest of its season and is facing bankruptcy. 

The executive director quit in the summer and ticket sales are $100,000 south of budget.

  • It is sad. Although a place like Salem is not a hotbed of culture, a chamber orchestra most definitely should be a cherished part of the fabric of the community. Yet another sign that culture in America Is becoming less and less a part of the entire country’s life.
