This rugby headline caught our eye, not so much for its reflection on creativity in sport as to its delineation of roles in the music world.

For instance:

piano player                                                                             piano pusher

argerich pianist mag         team decca

player                                                             pusher

daniil trifonov    flimm-lang-lang-01-gr

player                                                           pusher

terry-riley-betty-freeman-243x180    glass namekawa

player                                                        pusher

    um……

I think there’s more than just players and pushers (or rather pushers and players)

There might also be spinners, but this is all I could find so far:

  • Jeffrey Biegel says:

And Keith Emerson was a piano flyer!

  • anon says:

You forgot Yuja Wang as a pusher.

  • El Grillo says:

Well! NO ONE has mentioned Victor Borge, who is so versatile he could be pusher, player, spinner, flyer and candlestick maker pianist categories, you name it!

Candlestick maker for when that smoke cloud rises up out of whatever Horowitz has doused: “BANG!”

There’s this Dutch word Walm and the closest English that I can find would be the conglomerate: smoke-cloud

    And then there’s the who-has-the-longest-fuse competition….
