Paris Opéra opening is blacked out by strike

The season was due to open last night with Madam Butterfly, in Robert Wilson’s production, conducted by Daniele Rustioni and with Oksana Dyka in the title role.

A few hours beforehand, the Opéra posted a notice saying the performance had been cancelled due to a snap strike called by the FSU trade union.

There is no word yet s to whether the rest of this week’s performances will be affected. Ticketholders are being offered refunds at the box-office.

Plus ca change à Paris.

No big deal. Lissner can’t even identify the piece, anyway:

Utterly shameful. Nice to see his reign starting so majestically.
