Very eloquent review. Glad to see a young child having an interest in opera.

On the other hand, poor kid learning about the cruelty that a human being is capable of. Hey kid, this is just the beginning. I know people here will criticize me for this. But my suggestion for your next operatic adventure is Madama Butterfly, and you will grow right up.

“Excuse me, does the robin nests less frequently in America than in Japan?”
    Heartbreaking.

    I’m sorry, this is scary.

Love this! What a precocious young man! He should be consulted regularly for his opinion on the latest opera productions! We don’t often have critics of his generation! Bravo!

  • Songfest says:

The NY Times should hire him – it’s about time they had an intelligent critic.

    • V.Lind says:

The one indisputable takeaway is that he’s a little kid and he clearly enjoyed it.

But honestly — where is the Asian community when you need them? Wasn’t this opera performed by white folks?

Iain is quite a seasoned critic, with a passion for theater and musicals! His facebook and youtube pages, “Iain Loves Theatre”, feature dozens of productions he’s reviewed.

He’s an ardent advocate for children enjoying the arts and has been written up in several big publications himself. Thank heavens he’s discovering opera! http://www.cbsnews.com/news/for-6-year-old-critic-theater-reviews-are-childs-play/

And regarding the appropriateness of Turandot for children – I have no opinion either way on Jackie Evancho – but she pretty much opened the stable door for children on this opera when she sang Nessun Dorma.

  • Stephen Manes says:

Would love to see what he would do with the Wagner Ring Cycle—give Anna Russell a run for her money!

  • Alexander Brown says:

Divine! – “Out of the mouths of infants….”

  • Marg says:

I love him – such enthusiasm and delight in it all!! Wonderful! Probably what the blogger Opera Teen was like a decade ago. Im sure he is turning his fellow students at school onto opera – we need more of him!

  • Raul says:

I would just adore to hear his comments on Judy Garland…
