The British Library has been given a recording made of the composer’s first appearance at the BBC Proms – as soloist in the premiere of his piano concerto. Britten later rewrote the third movement, so the document is a rare isight into a work in progress. More here from the curator, Jonathan Summers.

Thanks for sharing this !! It’s quite easy to make an appointment at the Sound Archive section of the library

  • Peter Freeman says:

They should have contacted Maldoror YouTube Cleaner (google!!) to remove the needle hiss. He/she has done wonders with Caruso, etc. It nonetheless sounds amazing for its age in that clip.

  • Herbert Pauls says:

This is a real find! I hope somebody is allowed to release it commercially so that everyone has access to it. And, please, without too much overprocessing… that only ruins the basic tone of the instruments.
