The opera communities in Oslo and Berlin have been shocked by the death of Ina Kringlebotn, of brain cancer.

Ina was one of the brightest talents in Norway and in much demand abroad. At the Komiche Opera in Berlin she sang Eva in Wagner’s Meistersinger directed by Andreas Homoki, and Agathe in Weber’s Freischütz directed by Calixto Bieito.

Ina married Ludvig Lindström on Saturday and died the following day. She leaves a daughter, four months old.

Of course it begs the question what happened to her? It is exceptional to die so young, only three months after giving birth. What a painful loss it must be for her family and her baby in particular.

It says in the first sentence she died of brain cancer. Tragic, indeed. Beautiful voice.

      • Peter says:

The brain cancer bit was added later, after my question. Tragic indeed. Nobody can replace her as the mother of her newborn.

    How very, very sad.

With Ina, it appears we also lose another very promising upcoming Wagner singer, as this brief “Meistersinger” clip from the Komische Oper Berlin (as mentioned in the article) demonstrates – what a lovely Eva she made:

So young, so beautiful and talented. Speaking as one who also lost his wife to cancer very prematurely, my thoughts go out to her friends and family, and most especially to her widowed husband.

    Beautiful, beautiful voice.
