No mention of which school Alim attends?
Why am I not surprised [redacted]!

Last year a student wins the BBC Young Musician of the Year, now another wins the Cliburn.

Well done Purcell School , they must be doing something right.
And of course well done Alim, what a fantastic achievement.

17? why isn’t this kid in Tchaikovsky Competition already?

    • Yasmine says:

Probably just not ready for that level. Better he win the Cliburn Junior than not win TCH15. I hope we see him at TCH16. I hope we see some of the other Cliburn Junior competitors there as well. A few more years under their belts, I’m sure they will all be TCH-ready.

I was rooting for Youlan Ji but I’ll admit Baisembayev’s and Munn’s concertos were superior. I was also rooting for Wei Luo and was sad she didn’t make it to the final round but I think I understand why. I trust the jury. I did love Luo’s style, very powerful, and it’s amazing that she could perform the entire Prokofiev 7th sonata and Ravel’s La Valse, both goosebump-inducing. I think the jury was on the lookout for high level of technique and finesse. I appreciate other opinions if you care to share.
